ROLE CALL: Sandy
ROLE CALL for the role of
Sandy
in GCP’s upcoming production of
Annie
at Roger Rocka’s Dinner Theater
REHEARSALS BEGIN | June 8, 2026
SCHEDULED TO PERFORM | July 24 - September 20, 2026
SHOW SYNOPSIS Little orphan Annie charms everyone’s hearts despite a next-to-nothing start in 1930s New York City. She is determined to find the parents who abandoned her years ago on the doorstep of a New York City Orphanage that is run by the cruel, embittered Miss Hannigan. With the help of the other girls in the Orphanage, Annie escapes to the wondrous world of NYC.
DESCRIPTION OF THE DESIRED ROLE
SANDY The stray dog that Annie adopts - Annie names him Sandy because of his “sandy color”. Sandy is described as male in the script, but can be portrayed by female dog.
BIGGEST CHALLENGE Stage-acting with an animal in front of a live audience - It is the intent of the production team to use a real dog for the part of Sandy. Sandy appears for the first time during Annie’s iconic song “Tomorrow”. Usually, the dog walks on stage before the musical number, Annie sings the first verse and chorus to the dog and out to the audience, and then answers to being called Sandy when a policeman challenges Annie’s ownership of the dog.
We’re looking for a sandy-colored dog of any gender and any size. This cast member will be in regular attendance at rehearsals to get used to being around the group, however, interaction with this cast member will be limited to only the handler/trainer and those individuals that will actually be on stage with Sandy – this will keep the dog safe and secure and ensure success for those scenes that Sandy is a part of and will help the group to get used to having the cast member around.
